Vertus 2025: When Breakthroughs Become Mondays

Sliced bread.

Pre-cut, uniform, ready to go.

It was a sensation that raised sales by 2,000 percent.

By the 1930’s, Wonder Bread came along and Otto Frederick Rohwedder’s machine changed breakfast forever and the expression, “It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread” earned its place in the English language as the very standard for innovation.

One breakthrough.

One time.

And we’re all still talking about it a century later.

At Vertus, sliced bread happened over 87 times in 2025 alone.

And maybe even more, depending on how you count.

Twenty were major. The kind of fundamental architectural advances that would define a year at most companies.

The rest were what the team calls mini-breakthroughs and insights that unlocked capabilities, opened pathways, and that made the previously impossible suddenly work.

But here’s what didn’t happen.

Nobody stopped to take a bow.

Nobody called press conferences.

Nobody spent weeks celebrating before moving to the next problem.

There was team recognition for an unparalleled innovation, a wink and a knowing smile, and a celebration that quickly gave way to execution.

Not because the work wasn’t extraordinary, but because the goal demanded more.

Sliced bread earned its place in history because someone took the time to marvel at it.

Vertus breakthroughs in 2025 earned their place by compounding on each other faster than anyone could barely even stop to catalogue them.

When you’re building toward superintelligence, you don’t pause for accolades.

You use what you just discovered to unlock the next thing and that leads to the next thing, and so on, and so on…

When you’re processing your first billion dollars in transactions in a day within the first 10 months of going online and then hitting and surpassing that number with increasing frequency, you don’t stop to applaud clever solutions.

You compound them.

You strike while the iron’s hot.

Team and Foundation

Vertus was founded in 2022 by me and Alex Foster and Julius Franck and the partnership deepened over the last year from professional collaboration into something closer to brotherhood.

Some breakthroughs came from individual work. Others emerged from deep technical sessions and valuable market knowledge and insights.

And the pattern repeated throughout the year. Sustained building under pressure producing solutions that compounded on each other.

The diversity and focus of our team are the “secret sauce” that brings exceptional intellectual depth.

And the breakthroughs logged in 2025 are inseparable from that partnership.

We know that building under pressure with people of the entire Vertus team changes what’s possible.

But even with dedicated verticals, the work isn’t strictly solitary. It never is at this level. Sustained excellence requires partnership, trust, and the kind of intellectual honesty that only comes from people who’ve been through it together.

Performance

The numbers from 2025 tell one story. The context tells another.

Vertus processed its first billion dollars in transactions in under ten months of connecting capital. By year end, billion-dollar days were happening more and more and more frequently.  The flagship model delivered 51.15% returns with lower drawdowns than the market and minimal correlation to traditional assets.

This happened during one of the most brutal trading years in recent memory. April brought tariff shocks that collapsed hundreds of hedge funds. Stories of fund managers personally losing hundreds of millions in a single month were not the exception. Gold volatility, crypto swings, war speculation… 2025 was the year designed to break systems that couldn’t adapt fast enough.

Vertus adapted.

Not by predicting what would happen, but by building intelligence that could reason through consequence in real time.

Intelligence as Infrastructure

The markets were always intended to be the proving grounds for the Vertus drive towards superintelligence. And the success that we achieved was that the superior risk management allowed Vertus to avoid the worst of the market downside while capturing the upside.

This was the architectural shift in 2025 that now allows Vertus to also move in conjunction with finance-specific tools to further explore frontier cognitive superintelligence.

For those of us at Vertus, our API intelligence soon stopped being software and started being fully recognized as an integrated cognitive system.

This approach also borrowed from certain biological principles in that it was now more than simply distributed cognition and memory that compresses and abstracts and moved well beyond simply storing raw data.

It was now learning through consequence rather than labels.

Markets became high-resolution environments for training intelligence under consequence where micro-second decisions had multiples of millions of dollars at stake and where every decision was validated or corrected immediately by reality.

By year end, the building blocks had converged. Capital allocation, risk assessment, reasoning, and memory began reinforcing each other automatically. The shift moved from “demonstrating potential” to “compounding architecture.”

One example showed just how far this went with the advent of “multilingual reasoning”.

Our system changed from processing only in English to thinking in English plus Polish plus German plus Korean plus pseudo-code simultaneously.

Polish, my mother tongue, for logical structure precision, better embeddings. Then it expanded to many languages at once so that a single sentence contained three or four languages, Korean for emotional expressions, German for legal concepts especially where there were no English equivalents.

The idea was that no two thoughts repeat, even with the same question. And that sometimes there are better words within languages to use that solve and fit the problems more efficiently.

To our way of thinking, the possible thought routes that our architecture creates equal the number of atoms in the universe – this evolution was one such breakthrough when we finally achieved it.

From Finance to General Intelligence

The Vertus developer API launches in 2026.

And any use case will soon be able to build on the infrastructure that Vertus has created.

As of now, finance works the best as the data density and consequence feedback are unmatched. Coding will come second, because it enables dynamic tool creation. But the Vertus frontier superintelligence already performs strongly in STEM fields.

And the horizon extends well beyond markets and code, because Vertus also has a conscience. We recognized that superintelligence is inevitable, but that the blind rush for its arrival also needs to be tempered with the realities of what it will bring – for all of us.

So we’re hiring someone and an eventual team to focus specifically on autonomous use cases that may help to solve some social and societal problems, especially technology transition. Maybe we won’t solve anything, but it’s worth a try. And somebody absolutely has to do it. So it’ll be one of the first things our API will take a run at.

It’s that important.

When you build intelligence that operates in the one of the highest-consequence environments humans have ever created – financial markets – the question next becomes what else can that intelligence do.

Our API will provide one such answer.

But the intent is to also let others discover what’s possible.

What 2025 Was

Sliced bread became the benchmark because someone stopped long enough to recognize what had changed. The innovation was profound, the impact immediate and obvious.

It’s in your house.

It’s in your lunchboxes.

It earned its place in the language.

Vertus in 2025 produced 87+ breakthroughs that might each have earned that kind of recognition.

– Multilingual reasoning.

– Cognitive architecture that thinks in consequence.

– Intelligence that operates at speeds and scales that shouldn’t be possible with current paradigms.

– Billion-dollar days becoming routine through a year that broke hundreds of other funds.

None of it got any great moment.

Not because it wasn’t extraordinary.

It was.

But because our team was building toward something bigger than any single breakthrough, or even an avalanche of them.

Superintelligence doesn’t arrive through press releases and celebration tours.

It arrives through relentless compounding of capability on capability, insight on insight, breakthrough on breakthrough.

The recognition of the advances will come.

Sliced bread took time too.

But it happened because the thing itself was undeniable.

The breakthroughs of 2025 at Vertus are undeniable.

And they’re not finished yet.

That’s what just the year that was.

Not just another lap around the sun.
