My thesis is simple:

Prove that your technology can plausibly continue to benefit the world in a big way 100 years from now – and I’d like to back you. 

What’s my focus?

I’m currently most excited about various areas of deep tech: synthetic biology, agricultural biotechnology, AI, and space technologies.

Why 100 years?

I’ve verified the math and found that we’re going to experience 20,000 years of technological change – at our current pace – in this century compared to the last. 

The next 100 years will be the tipping point of our species. My desire is to help us all be on the right side of ensuring a prosperous survival as we approach the singularity.

An analysis of the history of technology shows that technological change is exponential, contrary to the common-sense “intuitive linear” view. So we won’t experience 100 years of progress in the 21st century — it will be more like 20,000 years of progress (at today’s rate). The “returns,” such as chip speed and cost-effectiveness, also increase exponentially. There’s even exponential growth in the rate of exponential growth. Within a few decades, machine intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to The Singularity — technological change so rapid and profound it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history. The implications include the merger of biological and nonbiological intelligence, immortal software-based humans, and ultra-high levels of intelligence that expand outward in the universe at the speed of light.

The future is widely misunderstood.

Our ancestors expected the future to be basically the same as their present, which had been basically like their past. Exponential trends did exist a thousand years ago, but they were at such an early stage and taken from such a small data set that the exponential trend was so flat that it looked like no trend at all. 

But the future will be far more surprising than most realize, and few have truly internalized the implications of the fact that the rate of change itself is accelerating.

I also see tremendous potential in artificial intelligence, where the exponential growth of machine intelligence is poised to surpass human intelligence in the coming decades. This represents a transformative moment in human history, where machines will become an increasingly important part of our lives and our economy, and where the potential for solving complex problems and creating new solutions is limitless.

Finally, I believe that the next frontier of technological progress lies in space, where advances in propulsion, robotics, and life support technologies are enabling us to explore the cosmos and unlock its secrets. I’m particularly interested in companies that are working to make space accessible to humans and to harness its resources for the benefit of humanity.

My aim is to help drive the transformative power of technology to create a better future for us all as we navigate the exponentially positive frontier of technological change.
